Motorola launches their G7 series smartphone

Motorola Moto G7

Motorola just launched the Moto G7 series of smartphones in Brazil. Motorola G series is known for being economical while providing excellent specification. While the former holds true, the latter part is nowhere to be found in the current series. In other words G7 is not what Motorola used to be. But first lets go though their spec sheet:

The top end model offers Snapdragon 636, a 2017 processor. In mobile space, manufacturers take time to develop and test their phone and its associated features so its not strange to find old processor. But when a phone cost close to 25k, one should expect something in line of Snapdragon 670. Snapdragon 670 offers 2 x Kryo 360 Gold at 2.0 GHz with 6 x Kryo 360 Silver at 1.7 GHz along with Adreno 615 GPU. This newer processor should have offered performance thats way better than the old S636. If that wasn’t enough, Motorola decided 4GB of ram is perfectly justifiable at the given price with 64GB of internal storage. And lastly the mobile is only splashproof.

G7 on the other hand offers the new Snapdragon 632 (2018). However the processor is designed for low midrange phones. Instead Motorola dropped it in a smartphone costing well past 20k mark . Adding insult to injury, both camera receive downgrades. And just like its bigger brother only offers protection from splashes of water without any certification.

Welcome 2GB ram to 2019:

Jumping straight to the cheapest option i.e. G7 Play, the one thing that striked immediately is the ram. Its a mere 2GB. Honor will happily sell a faster smartphone with 2 times that ram while still costing lot less. Not to forget their phone ships with quad camera and faster processor. More storage? Thats available too at the same price as G7 Play.

All in all, unless one is absolutely the biggest Motorola fan, they should strictly avoid the G7 series. At its current price point, even fan boys will have second thought.
